As we remember the people in our lives we do appreciate, we often also remember those we do not appreciate. In the book Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson, he refers to them as “border bullies”. They are the people in our lives who would stop us from realizing our dreams. They DEpreciate us.
If someone is trying to discourage you, you may need to let it go.
Or you may need to decide if part of what they say is helpful.
That can be difficult to do and will require wisdom and discernment. Because God’s Spirit is on the journey with you, wisdom and discernment are available. With God’s help, you will be able to move forward and consider their discouraging comments as valid, somewhat valid (usually maybe 10%) or null and void.
James 1:5 says “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
Discernment is a gift of the Spirit and if you do not have the gift of discernment, you can seek the wise counsel of someone who does have the gift of discernment.
Finally, good can come from border bullies. Sometimes when we are faced with border bullies we stop and take a step back to spend time listening to God. Taking time to evaluate where God is leading is always advantageous. If the border bullies lead you back to God, you will most certainly be blessed!
In the end, know that God values you and loves you. God chooses you. God is with you on your journey and God is for you. You can rely on God’s faithfulness.
